The Green Living Shop in
Hout Bay is an
environmental awareness
centre with information,
products and services that
promote sustainable
lifestyles.
Our aim is to offer
residents of Hout Bay and
the general public a place
to explore ‘green’ or
sustainable living
solutions and to buy, sell
or promote recommended
‘green’ products and
services for home, work
and schools.
Areas that will be covered
will be water, energy,
waste, growing food, safer
and environmentally
friendly cleaning products,
alternative beauty
products, building
alternatives, and safe
children’s products.
Organic locally grown
vegetables are available
daily.
Open 6 days a week with
free and safe parking.

We stock a growing range of green products.
Many alternative and organic suppliers are
helping us create a one stop shop for green
conscious shoppers. See a list of current
products including daily fresh organic vegetables
Green Library: Come and browse through our
extensive library, have a cuppa under the trees, and
educate yourself!
Green Living advice: Our shop is run by volunteers
who have been implementing grey water, veggie
gardens, rain tanks, sand bag alterations, recyling and
using many of these environmentally friendly cleaning
and home products.
Ethical Co-op Collection Point
www.ethical.org.za : order organic produce and
a wide range of other healthy products online
and collect on Thursday morning at the shop
Start a home veggie patch:
- Green PEAS will come and advise how to do it
and get your veggie garden started for you.
- Green PEAS also offers a variety of workshops
and training sessions. At the shop we stock a
variety of home-grown vegetable seeds and
seedlings, encouraging local food-growing.
Green Audit your home
This service will give advice on steps you can
take to green your home.
Green Drinks: Gatherings on the 1st Wed of each month at the Centre. This is
an informal social evening for meeting like-minded people and features an
interesting topic on sustainability. The shop will also be open for trading . email
angie@envirochild.org to get on the mailing list.
Zero Waste Hout Bay has a very organised recycling system set up by the
Zero Waste team. The current drive is to recycle EVERYTHING, thus reducing
our landfill waste to zero. Read more about it on their website

The Green Living Centre is a joint project between Envirochild and the
building owner, Kiki Bond Smith (who is also studying environmental law)

Envirochild also organise the annual Hout Bay
Green Faire and supports and promotes other
sustainable projects in our community.
